Printing error on Village of Summit tax bills
Village of Summit - A printing error on the Village of Summit tax bills is causing some confusion for residents.
Village Treasurer Renee Pearson said that a Madison-based printing company failed to include information on an insert that accompanied the tax bill that explained how to receive a receipt for payment.
The printer omitted instructions to residents that requires them to send a self-addressed stamped envelope if they want a receipt.
"We had an insert that we sent out with the tax bills, and the middle part of it, telling residents to send that self-addressed stamped envelope, did not get printed on the insert.
"That will be our biggest headache, even though that has been the procedure for the last three years," Pearson said.
She said they discovered the error when they told a resident the steps he had to take to get the receipt.
Pearson said the man was insistent that he had read all the information and that it was not mentioned anywhere.
"Sure enough," Pearson said, they checked and found that instruction was omitted.
Pearson said a resident suggested the village put the information out through LivingLakeCountry.com to spread the word. LivingLakeCountry.com is the website for Lake Country Publications.
In addition to the matter with the insert, the printing company also cut off a portion of the last number in the tax key in the upper right-hand column of the bill.
"You can't make out the last number," Pearson noted, adding that the county said all of the tax bills in the county had the same issue.
Pearson said, that error will not cause any problems for residents or municipal employees.
"The tax key number is also located in the middle of the left hand side, and you can read that clearly," she added.
The upper right-hand portion is the stub the clerk collects with the payment.
Pearson said the missing digit does not cause the village any difficulty.
"I have a bar code on the receipt," which can be scanned, she said. Failing that, numbers can be also assessed by address, she added.
