The Beer Depot set to reopen
City of Pewaukee - The Beer Depot, located at the intersection of Prospect and Elm Avenues in Pewaukee, will reopen after an extended absence. The local liquor store and delicatessen and has been a staple for Pewaukee residents for decades and has seen various owners over the years. The new owner, Patrick Michker, who has lived near the store for more than 25 years, hopes to resurrect the establishment and continue on in the traditions of past ownership.
"We just want to keep the neighborhood business open," said Michker, who petitioned the Plan Commission last Thursday to allow the business to change its initial plan of operation to include the sale of deli-style food, such as hot ham sandwiches.
The new owner has made significant renovations to the facility since acquiring it, including updating the walk-in cooler and cooler cases, and sprucing up the place overall. Neighborhood residents are eager to see the business reopen, especially with the updates. Anne Formiller, who lives just a couple of blocks from the store, explains that the community has been lacking without it.
"I'm very happy it's going back in," she said. "It's been missed since it closed."
After gaining approval from the Plan Commission, Michker will take up the petition with the Common Council at its next meeting on Feb. 6. City Planner Harlan Clinkenbeard said as long as he is able to get a permit from the County Health Department for the sale of food, he should have no problem gaining the city's blessing. He hopes to get The Beer Depot back up and running soon after the February meeting.
