Vets honored at local events
Veterans Day is a day to remember the sacrifices brave men and women have made in service to their country. Several commemorations are planned locally, including this sampling of events:
Delafield
Church salutes vets
Veterans in Christ the King Lutheran Church congregation will be honored at the 8:15 and 10 a.m. services Sunday, Nov. 13, at the church, 1600 N. Genesee St., Delafield. For information or to register a veteran, call Donna Finch, (262) 646-3245.
SJNMA plans pageant
A Salute to Veterans and Flag Pageant begins at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at Farrand Hall Gymnasium at St. John's Northwestern Military Academy, 1101 Genesee St. All are welcome. Veterans are asked to RSVP to the SJNMA alumni office, (262) 646-7220 or send an email to akopaczewski@sjnma.org.
Okauchee
Ceremonies planned
The Oconomowoc Area Veterans Committee will host its annual Veterans Day ceremonies at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at the Okauchee American Legion Auxiliary; doors open at 3, music begins at 6; no charge. This is open to all veterans and the community.
Hartland
Legion sounds bells
A bell will be sounded as the name of each area veteran who has died in the past 12 months is read as part of Hartland's annual Veterans Day program at 10:45 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, in front of the American Legion Post's clubhouse, 231 Goodwin Ave. The public is invited.
Fundraiser to benefit vets
Arrowhead High School will host its fourth annual veterans' benefit at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, in the Arrowhead North Campus Theater, 800 North Ave., Hartland. Cost: adults $10, students $5, veterans free.
The event raises funds for Guitars for Vets and Dryhootch. The programs serve the needs of veterans diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
NSMS plans program
An assembly to honor veterans is at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at North Shore Middle School, 800 E. North Shore Drive. A wall of heroes is also being created. All Lake Country veterans and family members are invited. Those with special seating needs should contact Michele Davis at (262) 369-6746 or mdavis@hartlake.org.
Symbols of America program
Fifth-grade students at Swallow School, W299 N5614 Highway E, will present "Symbols of America" at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, to honor the country's heroes and to develop an appreciation for their sacrifices.

Nashotah
LCCA honors veterans
Lake Country Christian Academy (LCCA) will have a chapel honoring vets at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at the school, W329 N4476 Lakeland Drive. All veterans and residents from the area are invited; enter through the main entrance at the rear of the school.
Veterans from American Legion Post 91, Oconomowoc, will conduct a flag ceremony.
North Lake
Have brunch with vets
North Lake School, N75 W31283 Highway V V, is planning a Veterans Day celebration for Thursday, Nov. 10. A welcome brunch will be served at 9 a.m. in the school commons. A program will follow at 10 in the school gym. The school is handicapped accessible. Call Pete Hirt at (262) 966-2033 for more information.
Pewaukee
Dads in the military
The Perinatal Foundation hosts Fathers Matter: Dads in the Military from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at Country Springs Hotel, 2810 Golf Road. The event aims to highlight the role of military fathers, the challenges they face and ways the community can support them.

A salute to those who served
Waukesha County Technical College, 800 Main St., is planning a day to honor past, present and future service members and their families from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11.
A military benefits and education fair will follow the ceremony.
