Weekend events will offer salute to area veterans
Veterans Day is Sunday, Nov. 11, a time when people pause all across the nation to celebrate the service of those who have served, or who continue to serve, in all branches of the military.
Numerous events are planned locally.

Hartland
Flanagan-Dorn American Legion Post 294

11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 11
The post will honor all veterans at the Veterans Day ceremony. Veterans should assemble in front of the post at 10:45 a.m. The public is invited.
Delafield
St. John's Northwestern Military Academy
Farrand Hall gymnasium

1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9
Part 1: Salute to veterans
SJNMA cadets will honor the academy's alumni veterans as well as all Wisconsin veterans. The ceremony will recall the events and sacrifices made by veterans of all wars starting with World War I and ending with the current war on terror. Guidon bearers for each conflict will be dressed in uniforms identified for each conflict. The segment will conclude with a 21-gun salute and taps in honor of fallen veterans and those who served.
Part 2: All uniformed services flag pageant
The fourth-grade class from Cushing Elementary School will perform a medley of patriotic American melodies. SJNMA cadets will individually parade colors from each of the U.S. armed forces during the flag pageant. Each service's song will then be played while all veterans who served in that service stand to be recognized. Cub Scout Den 20 from Cushing Elementary School will carry in the American flag followed by the playing of the national anthem. SJNMA cadet bagpipers will play a closing tune as the flags and guidons exit.
OCONOMOWOC
Rhodee Memorial Band Shell
11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 11
The ceremony will feature brief remarks, prayers and military salutes to America's fallen heroes and the commitment and sacrifices of all of America's military forces. Taking part will be color guards from Solveson-Moos-Abrahamson VFW Post 2260, Edwin L. Jones American Legion Post 91, Magnus-Anderson American Legion Post 399 and Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 635.
An open house will follow the ceremony at Spinnakers and American Legion Post 91 for veterans and their families. Spinnakers and American Legion Post 91 share the same building on West Wisconsin Avenue.
Center for Life Enrichment
1306 W. Wisconsin Ave.
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10
Oconomowoc-area veterans are invited to bring a guest to a free luncheon held as a salute to the brave men and women who have served in the armed forces. eterans and a guest will enjoy a free meal at Café LaBelle at the Center for Life Enrichment; the menu will include: beef stew, three cheese Ziti, Italian salad, buttermilk biscuits, dessert and beverage. The recently retired Chief of the Navy Reserve, and Oconomowoc native, Dirk Debbink will be the guest speaker. For tickets, contact Liz Mueller at (262) 560-6909 or emueller@lho.org.
