Woman charged for man's overdose

She gave pills to boyfriend who died from heroin

Waukesha — A 25-year-old Hartland woman was charged Dec. 8 in Waukesha County Circuit Court for giving prescription pills to her boyfriend the day that he overdosed on heroin in Milwaukee and then drove him back to Harland and left in a car.

Jamie M. Kohn of 632 Belshire Drive was charged with one count of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance. A warrant has been issued for her arrest.

According to the criminal complaint, Hartland police were called to the 100 block of East Capitol Drive at about 3:50 p.m. April 27 for a man in a vehicle who had no pulse and was not breathing. Police found Jordan R. Caine, 23, of N74 W22138 Valley View, Sussex, who was unresponsive and it was evident he had been dead for some time, the complaint said.

Caine's sister, Julie, told police she wanted to see her brother and asked Kohn where he was. Kohn, who had a child with Jordan Caine, initially told Julie Caine that she did not know where he was, but then admitted she last saw him in the back of his vehicle, the complaint said.

Police searched Kohn's residence and found an empty prescription pill bottle for Xanax in the bathroom. Based on the date of the prescription and based on the amount that was supposed to have been used, there should have been 12 pills left in the bottle, the complaint said.

Kohn told police she was with Caine on April 26 and he asked her for some Xanax pills and that she gave pills to him as well as his sister and her boyfriend, the complaint said.

Caine then wanted to buy heroin and he, Kohn and their child went to Milwaukee, bought heroin and then each injected themselves with the drug. Caine then slumped over the steering wheel and went unconscious, the complaint said.

Kohn said she knew Caine had overdosed and tried to help him but could not, the complaint said. She found a man and woman who agreed to help her. The woman drove Caine's car, with the man following, and after dropping Kohn and Caine off in Hartland, they left, Kohn told police, the complaint said.

Kohn said she did not know whether Caine was dead but left him in the car and went to her apartment at 129 E. Capitol Drive, with her son, the complaint said.

An autopsy by the Waukesha County Medical Examiner's Office showed Caine died of a heroin overdose, and it also showed he had taken alprazolam. Xanax is the brand name of the drug, which is prescribed to treat anxiety and panic disorder.
