Bullet grazes pregnant woman at restaurant
City of Delafield — One day after a contentious meeting over the Hartland Sportsman's Club, a woman dining at the Delafield Brewhaus on Thursday was hit by a bullet fired from the nearby Hartland Sportsman's Club.
According to Police Chief Scott Taubel, Raluca E. Buznea , 31, of Waukesha was seated in the patio area of the restaurant, 3832 Hillside Drive, at about 5:50 p.m.when she was struck by a .45-caliber round in the side of the abdomen near the hip area. Buznea, who is pregnant, suffered a superficial wound, and the bullet was "stuck in her shirt," Taubel said Friday. Buznea was treated at a nearby hospital.
"We have connected the handgun round to a specific handgun that was being used at the gun club at the time of the incident," said Taubel in a statement released Monday. The state Crime Lab matched the bullet with one of the guns at the club.
The gun club has voluntarily ceased all shooting operations until the investigation is complete. Both the gun club and the people shooting at the time of the incident are cooperating with the investigation to determine how the round traveled from the gun club to the restaurant, Taubel said in the statement.
The handgun was used by a number of people, and the exact person who fired the errant round has not yet been determined, Taubel said.
The incident occurred about 24 hours after the City of Delafield Plan Commission agreed to extend the hours of the gun club, though such a move was opposed by area residents.
