Man found hiding with gun
A 26-year-old man was charged with several misdemeanors after he rolled his vehicle Feb. 5 on I-94 and then allegedly tried to hide from police in a bystander's back seat with a loaded semiautomatic pistol.
Zachary P. Iller, 14465 Lindsay Drive, Brookfield, was charged in the Waukesha County Circuit Court with possession of a firearm while intoxicated, obstructing an officer and second offense drunken driving.
According to the criminal complaint, the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department responded to a crash on westbound I-94 near Highway F at about 2 a.m. Feb. 5.
The vehicle driven by Iller was heavily damaged. A second vehicle, driven by Ryan Tentoni, was stopped nearby.
Tentoni told police Iller's vehicle had shot past him at about 80 or 90 mph, then apparently tried to exit onto Highway F. The vehicle rolled three or four times before crashing into a tree.
Tentoni then whispered to the officer that he needed help, the complaint said: The driver of the vehicle was hiding in his car.
Police found Iller lying in the back seat of Tentoni's car, bleeding from a cut on his forehead.
Tentoni said when he stopped, Iller grabbed his backpack and jumped into Tentoni's vehicle, the complaint said, demanding a ride home before police arrived.
While Iller was being questioned, he allegedly blurted out: "I have a gun." Police then restrained him and asked him where the gun was located. They found a loaded semiautomatic handgun in Tentoni's car.
If convicted of all the charges, Iller could face more than a year in prison and $20,000 in fines.
