Lasers hold down South
KM girls stingy in middle quarters
Kettle Moraine's varsity girls basketball team put together back-to-back sound defensive quarters on Friday against Waukesha South at home, leading to a 38-32 victory.
In the second quarter, the Lasers held Waukesha South to three points, and the Blackshirts managed only five points in the third quarter against Kettle Moraine' stingy defense.
"Right there, I guess that was the game," Kettle Moraine head girls basketball coach JoEllen Dickert-Sturtz said. "It was nice to see us play so well defensively for a good stretch of the game."
Chloe Tompkins had 14 points for Kettle Moraine.
"Chloe Tompkins is playing all-around good basketball right now," Dickert-Sturtz said. "She's been solid on both ends of the floor."
Olivia Weber had eight points for the winners. Emma Melotik, Jordan Fink, Courtney Leister, Linley Achtenhagen and Morgan Fuller completed scoring for the Lasers (7-9 overall, 5-5 in the Classic 8 Conference).
"Morgan Fuller, despite being undersized has done an excellent job for us in playing inside," Dickert-Sturtz said. "She's held her ground in there very well against bigger players."
Eileen Van Horn scored 14 points for Waukesha South. Lexi Weitzer had 10 points.
"We attacked them pretty well and made some jump shots when we had to," Dickert-Sturtz said. "It was a nice game for us all-around."
