Celebrate Oconomowoc at Festival Week
Events, activities kick off annual Festival of the Arts
The 40th annual Oconomowoc Festival of the Arts kicks off on Saturday, Aug. 20, but not without a full week of fun first! Festival Week, sponsored by the Oconomowoc Area Chamber of Commerce, will begin Saturday, Aug. 13 and run right up to the start of the Festival of the Arts. Various events and activities are scheduled for families, adults, and kids of all ages, so check out what's on tap and head out for some summer fun.
Saturday, Aug. 13
Oconomowoc Summer Festival
When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Downtown Oconomowoc
What: This daylong event, sponsored by the Downtown Oconomowoc Merchants Association (DOMA), will include live entertainment, food vendors, a Model T car show, Maxwell Street specials, free kids activities and more. Annual Street Dance
When: 6 to 11 p.m.
Where: East Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Oconomowoc.
What: Immediately after the Summer Festival activities, put on your dancing shoes and finish the day off at the annual street dance. The Old Mil Band will perform from 7 to 11 p.m., and dance sponsorships are available on the chamber's website, www.oconomowoc.org. Sunday, Aug. 14
Artisan Faire
When: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Downtown Oconomowoc
What: Get excited for the Festival of the Arts and check out the work of these talented artists in the streets of downtown. This event is sponsored by DOMA.
Monday, Aug. 15
Historic Mail Boat Tours
When: 1 to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, Aug. 19
Where: Tours launch behind Lake Country Life Enrichment (1306 W. Wisconsin Ave., north side of Highway 16)
What: Lutheran Homes of Oconomowoc invites you to enjoy all the beauty Oconomowoc has to offer with boat tours, as well as appetizers, wine and beer for sale for pre- or post-tour sampling. Boats will launch from behind Lake Country Life Enrichment; reservations are required at $10 per person. Tuesday, Aug. 16

Where: Tours launch behind Lake Country Life Enrichment (1306 W. Wisconsin Ave., north side of Highway 16)
Kids Fest
When: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: Roosevelt Park
What: Come down to the park for games, activities and more. This event is free to the community, with a rain date scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 23. Kids Day
When: 1:30 to 5 p.m.
Where: Lac La Belle City Beach
What: Cool off after the park's activities with an afternoon of fun in the sun. For details, contact the Oconomowoc Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department at (262) 569-2199 or visit www.oconomowoc-wi.gov.
Wed., Aug. 17

American Legion Band concert
When: 7:30 to 9 p.m.
Where: Band shell at Oconomowoc City Beach
What: This may be a weekly event, but this is no ordinary week! Watch the band perform and enjoy the sunset. For more information, visit the American Legion Band website at www.oconomowoclegionband.org.
Thursday, Aug. 18

Moonlit Movies
When: 5 to 11 p.m.
Where: Downtown Oconomowoc
What: The last Moonlit Movie event of the summer will take place during Festival Week, with an expanded Pirate Fest theme. The streets of downtown will be closed so moviegoers can spread out blankets, lawn chairs and the like to enjoy a movie with the nights theme of "Pirates .. Arrrrr!" The music main stage will feature American Idol's Naima Adedapo's band, Ras Movement, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The movie will start at about 8 p.m. Activities and vendors open at 5 p.m., including an inflatable pirate ship slide and a Children's Activity Area.
The event is free, but moviegoers are asked to bring a nonperishable food item for the Oconomowoc Food Pantry or make a monetary contribution on-site. For more information, visit www.moonlitmovies.org.

Saturday, Aug. 20
Festival of the Arts
When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Fowler Park
What: The 40th annual Oconomowoc Festival of the Arts will take place on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 20 and 21. The juried art festival, held on the shores of Fowler Lake in Fowler Park, boasts artists from a variety of media, including photography, painting, drawing, fiber, jewelry, wood, metal, glass and stone. In addition to the artist booths, the festival will also feature live entertainment on three stages, which will run between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day. Patrons may also enjoy a Children's Area and treats provided by community organizations at the food pavilion.

Ice-cream social, American Legion Band, Parade of Lights and fireworks
When: 6:30 to 10 p.m.
Where: Lac La Belle City Beach and band shell
What: Enjoy a night of friends, music and fireworks fun at City Beach. Events will occur in the order listed above.
