2012 Lake Country Veterans Day Events

The following events are taking place in Lake Country communities in honor of Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2012. If you have information for a city, town or village not listed, please send it to us and we'll get it added. 

 

 

Holy Trinity Lutheran, Okauchee: Wednesday, Nov. 7, The students and faculty invite all veterans and their families to a free breakfast and Veterans Day ceremony Wednesday, Nov. 7. The event begins with a breakfast from 8 to 9 a.m. followed by viewing of the Wall of Honor and a ceremony at 10 a.m. in the gym. For information, call (262) 567-0669.

 

St. John's Northwestern Military Academy, Delafield: 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9

Part 1: Salute to Veterans
SJNMA cadets will honor the Academy’s alumni veterans as well as all Wisconsin veterans. The ceremony will recall the events and sacrifices made by veterans of all wars starting with World War I and ending with the current War on Terror. Guidon bearers for each conflict will be dressed in uniforms identified for each conflict. The segment will conclude with a 21-gun salute and taps in honor of fallen veterans and those who served. 
 
Part 2: All Uniformed Services Flag Pageant
The fourth grade class from Cushing Elementary School will perform a Medley of Patriotic American Melodies. SJNMA cadets will individually parade colors from each of the U.S. Armed Forces during the flag pageant. Each service’s song will then be played while all veterans who served in that service stand to be recognized for their contribution to our nation. Cub Scout Den #20 from Cushing Elementary School will carry in our national colors followed by the playing of the National Anthem. SJNMA cadet bagpipers will play a closing tune as the flags and guidons exit.

Hamilton School District: Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11, will be observed and veteran’s honored in each Hamilton District school.

Willow Springs: 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9
Lannon School: 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12
Maple Avenue School: Friday, Nov. 9
Woodside School: 9a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8
Templeton Middle School: 8:30 am. Friday, Nov. 9
Hamilton High School: Student Bryan Ritter will perform "Taps" at 11:11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9

Swallow School, Hartland:  Sunday, 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9. The fifth-grade class will present a Veteran’s Day program for parents and community members to attend. Anyone with a friend, famly member or neighbor who has served our country is invited to this special event. 

 

Flannagan-Dorn American Legion Post #294-Hartland: 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 11.

The post will honor all veterans at an 11 a.m. Veterans Day ceremony Sunday Nov. 11, at the post, 231 Goodwin Ave., Hartland. Veterans should assemble in front of the post at 10:45 a.m. The public is invited to attend.

 

Center for Life Enrichment, Oconomowoc: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10.

The recently retired Chief of the Navy Reserve and Oconomowoc native, Dirk Debbink will be the guest speaker at a luncheon planned to honor all local veterans at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Center for Life Enrichment, 1306 W. Wisconsin Ave., Oconomowoc. Sponsored by Oliver Construction.

Oconomowoc-area veterans are invited to bring a guest to a free luncheon held as a salute to the brave men and women who have served in the armed forces ensuring the freedoms we cherish today.

Music during the program will be provided by guest vocalists David and Betty Reul.

Tickets may be secured by contacting Liz Mueller at (262) 560-6909 or emueller@lho.org. Seating is limited and no walk-ins will be allowed. Please provide your phone number, the names of those attending, an address for mailing tickets and designate which attendees are veterans.

The deadline for registration is Wednesday, Nov. 7.

 

VFW Dinner, Pewaukee: 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11. The Veteerans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary will have a spaghetti dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, at VFW Post 9537, 202 Clark St. Cost: veterans $3, guests $5. Proceeds benefit improvements of VFW building. For information, call jean Miller, (262) 691-1463. 

 

Christ the King Lutheran, Delafield:  Veterans and those currently serving in the military will be honored at the 5 p.m. service Saturday, Nov. 10, and the 8:15 and 10 a.m. services Sunday, Nov. 11, with a reception at 9:15 a.m. in the upper sancturay at the church, 1600 N. Genesee St., Delafield.
