Bella's story
Back in February, a tiny special-needs Puggle puppy came to the Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha County. This little girl had a broken front leg and needed basic medical care and around-the-clock monitoring.
After our friends at Animal Clinic in Sussex got the puppy "back on her feet," wonderful HAWS volunteers took her in, turning their household into a completely safe environment for her recovery. Having named the tiny pup Bella, this foster family has lived a months-long adventure of comforting, training and loving an animal in need.
Bella's cast is now off, and she is ready for adoption! Just under 6 months of age, she is an active and happy girl. But, she still needs a very dedicated owner who can give her lots of time and devotion. While Bella is a survivor, she has a few emotional scars from trauma early in her life.
Like most puppies, she will benefit from basic obedience classes. Unlike many puppies, Bella has been found to bond strongly with her human companions – to the point that she doesn't like to be left alone. She goes to Central Bark Doggy Day care several times a week, and her caretakers there say she is comfortable with many types of dogs.
Bella's story shows how animal welfare is a community-wide effort. Shelters, veterinarians, trainers, caregivers and more all play important roles in making Waukesha County a better place for pets and their people.
