'Run to the Peak' July 11 and help save lives

Lake Country Adventure Boot Camp and Peak Performance Personal Training are holding their first ever 5K race on Saturday, July 11, at Nixon Park in Hartland. The run, Run to the Peak, HartFest 5K will be a fun family event that begins at 9 a.m. All profits from this run will go to the Hartland Police Department to purchase a new defibrillator for their new squad car.

Captain Mike Bagin of the Hartland Police Department indicated, "We recently purchased a new squad car, but have not had the budget to also purchase a defibrillator for that vehicle." Portable defibrillators cost between $1,600 and $3,000. The police are often the first to arrive on the scene of an accident. When an individual goes into cardiac arrest, for every minute that passes without professional care, the chance of survival decreases by 10%. Therefore, if the paramedics are 5 minutes behind the police, that is a 50% decrease in survival. In addition, a heart in cardiac arrest with fibrillation contractions can only be corrected by a shock to the heart from a defibrillator. CPR does nothing for a heart in fibrillation.

Doug Krueger, owner of Peak Performance Personal Training and Lake Country Adventure Boot Camp, is a life-long resident of Hartland, having graduated from Arrowhead High School. Krueger mentioned, "We were looking for an event to show our appreciation to our clients who have worked so hard on their fitness goals as well as a way to give back to the Lake Country community." Peak Performance has studios in both Hartland and Pewaukee and offers group and private training with certified personal trainers. Lake Country Adventure Boot Camp offers camps in Oconomowoc, Hartland, Pewaukee and soon in Waukesha. To date, more than 500 women (and now men) have participated in the outdoor camps. The next 4-week outdoor camp starts on July 13.

In addition to the 5K race at 9 a.m., there will be a kids' half-mile fun run, music, food, a raffle, medal ceremony and more.
