Readers' Choice: Dentist
Dr. Grant Lemke, DDS
Practice: Grant Lemke DDSSC; locations at 510 Hartbrook Drive, Hartland, and Highways Q and 41 in Germantown
Education: Carroll University for biology and chemistry, then Marquette University School of Dentistry. Member of the Wisconsin Dental Association, American Dental Association and the Waukesha County Dental Association. Oral Sedation Certification from the State of Wisconsin.
Philosophy: "Being a general dentist has allowed me a tangible way to help my community in a Christian way. Each day, for decades, I've been able to work with a group of cheerful, friendly women, helping patients from all over the Midwest look better and feel better about their smiles. With dental cosmetic advances and sedation alternatives, there is definitely less stress for patients today than ever before. I treat patients as I would like to be treated. "
Going above and beyond
The idea of taking a trip to the dentist can strike fear in the heart of even the most brave among us. But once a patient meets with Dr. Grant Lemke, who has had a dental practice in Hartland for 30 years, those negative dental experiences are typically a thing of the past.
"Many people dislike going to the dentist since they associate it with fear and pain - I have never had that type of experience with Dr. Lemke nor his staff. I actually enjoy going to the dentist," wrote Cheryl Kuchera of Pewaukee in her nomination.
According to his patients, Lemke eases fears by truly listening to each patient and thoroughly explaining the different treatments available.
"Dr. Lemke consistently takes his time discussing and also preparing me for any dental work," wrote Lee Rogers. "He spends time becoming familiar with any concerns or reservations I have. He is the greatest dentist I have had in my 60 years."
Alice Goeldner, who last year moved to central Wisconsin, still makes the drive to Hartland to see Lemke.
"I was the 'problem' patient with a history of dental concerns and a very big fear of dental equipment, especially those drills. Dr. Lemke and his staff eased my fears almost from my very first appointment," wrote Goeldner. Lemke himself isn't the only reason his patients are so dedicated to their dentist: His staff was also frequently mentioned as one of the reasons patients keep coming back.
"When I call and need something, his staff is friendly and responsive," Kuchera wrote.
"They are a very caring and kind group of professionals who always respect my dignity and privacy but still make me feel like 'one of the family'," wrote Goeldner.
