'Best' title boosts business

Last summer, Mukwonago Publications had the chance to vote for their favorite area shops, restaurants, services and more. What followed was "Simply the Best," a special section that highlighted Mukwonago area businesses that were voted as the best. The publication was such a hit that we will be tallying up votes again.

The survey was broken down into eight categories: financial/investment, home improvement, medical services, professional services, dining experience, places to shop, automotive service, and recreation providers. Within each category, readers had the chance to fill in their favorite home remodeler, doctor's office, hair salon, pizza place, florist, bowling center, tire dealer and much, much more. The survey was printed in the Mukwonago Chief and Kettle Moraine Sunday for two weeks and the results were tallied.

Some businesses were voted the best in just one category such as Linden Ridge for their assisted living and Music Café for the best place to shop for musical instruments and lessons. Other businesses swept several categories like Horter Chevrolet for best new car dealer, oil change place, tire dealer, and used car dealer; and Lakeside Restaurant and Lounge for their catering, cocktail lounge, dessert, fish fry, seafood, and more.

Since winning "Simply the Best," many shop owners like Robin Vail from Gracie's Consignment and Estate Services said they have seen business increase since the votes came in.

"The day the section came out, my business tripled and this continued through the fall," Vail said. "It really helped people understand what consignment was all about."

Editorial staff made many phone calls and collected numerous pictures to create a sampling of "the best." Restaurant owners and staff explained what it was that makes their food so tasty and the type of customer service that keeps customers coming back time and time again. Car dealerships got to toot their own horn about establishing relationships with customers and the greater community, and local shops got to brag about what makes them a unique shopping destination.

Businesses used advertising space to say why they felt they're the best and to thank their customer's, and Mukwonago, for helping them be such a success.

Make sure you experience everything Mukwonago has to offer, and look for your chance this summer to vote for your choices to make them "Simply the Best."
