Improvements for home improvement
WCTC interior design students participate in show
The 50th annual Milwaukee/NARI Home Improvement Show runs Thursday through Sunday, Feb. 9 through 12, at the Wisconsin Exposition Center at State Fair Park, West Allis. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission: advance $6, at the door $8; children 12 and younger and all military personnel with a military ID card free; seniors 60 and older $6, with a special price of $4 on Thursday, for Senior Day presented by Callen Construction.
This year's show features an enhanced outdoor living area with a Northwood's theme, the Schlossmann's Dodge City Chrysler Jeep Vehicle Display, the Kohl's Color Wheel Mobile Arts Display and an interior design contest between local colleges. The Show's Outdoor Living Area features landscaping, hardscaping, and water features surrounding a log cabin from Cabintek. A similar log cabin kit will be the grand prize in the Milwaukee/NARI Foundation raffle.
Attendees will have an opportunity to serve as judges of an Interior Design Contest sponsored by Benjamin Moore Paints and Pekel Construction & Remodeling, which will pit students from Gateway Technical College (arts & crafts); Milwaukee Area Technical College (modern); Mount Mary College (global) and Waukesha County Technical College (retro), each designing and creating a 12-foot-by-12-foot dining room in a specific design style. The participating schools will each receive $1,000 for the school's interior design program.
More than 700 booth spaces covering the entire exposition center will feature providers of thousands of home improvement products and services, including kitchens, decks, cabinets, windows, bathrooms, siding, lighting, landscaping, media rooms, wall covering, rec rooms, roofing, fireplaces and more.
During the Show, educational demonstrations and seminars by home improvement experts and media celebrities will be held, including presentations on the Renewal by Andersen Seminar Demonstration Stage by Doug Wilson of TLC's "Trading Spaces," Melinda Myers, Gus Gnorski, Lis Friemoth, "The Garden Hoe," and Tom Feiza, Mr. Fix-It. The Wisconsin Granite Depot Cooking Demonstration Stage will feature area chefs and national cooking celebrities, including Mad Dog & Merrill and Jyll Everman, Food Network Star Contestant.
