State of emergency declared in Waukesha County

Governor Jim Doyle today declared a state of emergency in Waukesha County after strong winds and thunderstorms storms throughout the county and an F2 tornado that hit the Village of Eagle land F1 tornado that hit the Village of Big Bend last night.

The storms damaged dozens of homes and other structures, and caused widespread power outages and downed trees. The state of emergency directs state agencies to assist local governments in recovering from this natural disaster. Wisconsin Emergency Management personnel were on the scene last night, working with local officials to begin assessing the damage and determining what resources would be needed to help speed recovery efforts. Local and state officials are continuing to work to get an accurate assessment of the damage and the resources needed to help speed recovery efforts.

Tomorrow, Doyle and Brig. Gen. Don Dunbar will survey the damage and meet with local officials and residents.
