DOT can work on 83 overnight
A week's worth of work can be done in two nights
Village of Mukwonago — The Village Board voted last Tuesday to grant the Wisconsin Department of Transportation's request to work overnight during the Highway 83 resurfacing project slotted for this August.
The DOT's plans include resurfacing Highway 83 in the Village of Mukwonago from the bridge over the Mukwonago River to Lincoln Avenue.
The project will cover about 1.14 miles of roadway and will include the replacement of curb ramps to conform with Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.
The crosswalk north of Lincoln Avenue will be moved farther south so it will no longer lead directly into the Miller Pharmacy parking lot.
Allowing the DOT to work overnight will mean the project will take significantly less time.
What crews can do in two nights would take an entire week during the day and would mean a mess for traffic, explained Village Administrator Paul Moderacki.
Village residents had the chance to provide input at a Jan. 28 informational meeting.
Moderacki said residents didn't seem concerned with the overnight work.
"People were more concerned with the final lift," he said. "They didn't want stormwater drains to be overflowing … but the DOT assured them either the drains would be lifted or the roads would be milled down, so they would work as effectively as they do now."
The $524,000 project should take about a month to complete and is meant to extend the life of the pavement until a full reconstruction project is scheduled.
