Bingo to raise money for MHS band uniforms
Uniforms are 15 years old and worn out
With the Mukwonago High School band scheduled to march in the Fourth of July parade in Washington, D.C., in 2011, the push is on to raise funds for new uniforms. The new uniforms will replace 15-year-old worn, stained, wool uniforms that are expensive to clean and difficult to fit because of a lack of useable pieces.
The band will hold a Bob Kames Foundation Bingo fundraiser on Friday, March 19, at Park View Middle School to raise funds for new uniforms. Doors open at 5:45 p.m.
New uniforms made of Hybred fabric will be less costly to clean, saving the band about $350 a year. Additionally, the new uniforms will allow for more adjustments, which will reduce the inventory of uniforms needed to outfit the band by about one-third. The fabric allows insulation from cold in the winter months while taking away moisture and allowing breathability in warmer weather. The typical life for a band uniform is seven to 15 years.
The band needs to raise nearly $40,000 to replace the faded, outdated uniforms.
"The current uniforms have been around for a while. They are difficult to fit since the neck closure requires additional help. They don't close very well," said MHS senior Alex Diring. "The colors from wear have faded and aren't as vibrant as other schools at parades or competitions. The new uniforms would be a great benefit to help Mukwonago's marching band stand out."
