Junior wins FIRST Robotics award

Mukwonago High School junior Samantha Scharles, a member of the Mukwonago B.E.A.R.s (Building Extremely Awesome Robots) FIRST Robotics Team 930 won the Dean's List Finalist Award at the Wisconsin Regional FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition on March 13.

The Dean's List Award recognizes students who show outstanding leadership and participation in FIRST. Scharles was one of two students chosen from 53 teams at the Wisconsin Regional FRC event to receive the award, which is in its inaugural year, and will be one of 96 participants eligible for consideration in the FIRST Dean's List Award at the championship competition in Atlanta in April.

Scharles has been involved in FIRST since elementary school, where she participated in FIRST LEGO League (FLL). As a member of the high school team, she has mentored FLL teams for three years, has spoken to community groups about FIRST and has been the electrical lead on Team 930 for two seasons.

Team 930 reached the quarter-final matches on Saturday before being eliminated from competition.
