Fusion Fitness opens in Mukwonago
Laura Timmers of Mukwonago was looking for something to spice up her fitness routine. What she found was Zumba. And it was Zumba that led her to open her own fitness studio at 109 Lake St., in downtown Mukwonago.
Timmers said she's always been involved in sports and athletics. She began taking Zumba classes and fell in love with the program.
"It was so much fun, so different," Timmers said. "I decided to get certified and I've been teaching now for 2 1/2 years."
Timmers began teaching classes through the Eagle Park and Recreation Department. She also taught classes in Wales. She's hosted parties and even taught corporate Zumba classes.
After gaining a client base, she decided to open her own studio.
Timmers and four other Mukwonago-area instructors teach Zumba classes at Fusion Fitness Studio. Other classes include yoga, turbo kick and hip-hop hustle. Timmers said she would like to add even more classes.
The studio features Zumba classes Mondays through Saturdays.
What is Zumba?
Timmers describes Zumba as a Latin-based dance fitness class that's easy to follow.
"No dance experience necessary," she said. "This is not a choreographed dance class."
According to her literature, Zumba fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms with easy-to-follow moves to create a dynamic workout that is designed to be fun.
"Our goal is simple: We want people to want to work out, to love to work out and to get hooked," she said.
Timmers said Zumba is so much fun that people don't even realize what an incredible workout they're getting.
Zumba works your upper body, lower body and your core, Timmers added.
"And it's continual for the whole hour; people don't realize they're getting that kind of workout. It's easy, fun and any age can do it."
Classes are popular with people of all ages, Timmers explained. She teaches a kids program and has clients from age 4 to 76.
And it's very popular with stay-at-home moms, too.
"They look at this as a way to get out for a bit and spend some time with their girlfriends," she said.
Fusion Fitness opened in May, and Timmers is excited about her grand opening Saturday, Aug. 14. From 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., she will offer free half-hour mini classes. There will also be a drawing for a free punch card, along with special pricing.
"We've already had a lot of new people coming in," said Timmers. "The community response has been excellent."
