Generac to create hundreds of jobs

New jobs will include entry level to management

Generac will create 300 to 400 new jobs over the next year at its plants in Waukesha, Whitewater and Eagle.

Generac Power Systems CEO Aaron Jagdfeld made the announcement during a news conference Monday at the firm's Waukesha headquarters. Gov. Scott Walker was also in attendance.

Between 50 and 60 new jobs will be created at Magnum Products in Berlin, Wis. Generac acquired Magnum, a leading manufacturer of high-quality light towers and mobile generators, in October.

Positions will range from entry level to management and include engineers, designers, technicians and more. The company currently employs about 2,000 employees throughout Wisconsin.

The news release explains that the job creations are a result of increased demand.

"In response to increased demand, many of these jobs need to be filled in the next ninety days," according to a news release. Art Aiello, a Generac spokesman, said that technical jobs and engineering "are certainly very much in demand," but that the company will also hire shop floor jobs as well.

Generac is looking for qualified applicants and will hold an engineering job fair from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at its Waukesha headquarters, S45 W29290 Highway 59.

Aiello stated that with the acquisition of Magnum, Generac will be employing people farther north. He added that while the company is creating jobs locally, this is "an opportunity to not only bring new jobs to Wisconsin, but also bringing new folks to Wisconsin."

"We're very excited to be bringing jobs to Wisconsin in general," Aiello said.

Business is booming

The numbers have been increasingly in Generac's favor this year. The company reported third-quarter total net sales increased year-over-year by 49 percent, to $239.3 million.

The company also reported a 60.5-percent year-over-year growth in residential product sales, and that commercial and industrial product sales are up 27.4 percent compared to last year.

Generac maintains it is one of the fastest growing employers in Southeastern Wisconsin.

Since 1959, Generac is a designer and manufacturer of a range of generators and other engine-powered products. The company manufacturers power equipment serving residential, light commercial, industrial and construction markets, with products being sold through a network of independent dealers, retailers, wholesalers and equipment rental companies.
