Mukwonago bursts with generosity
The season of giving exploded in the Mukwonago community with more than $1,800 in donations to local food pantries last week through the Mukwonago Chief Yule Feed Families food drive.
Monty and Laura Vikse started the outpouring with generous donations to each food pantry, while Doug and Deb DeBack added $200 a piece to the Mukwonago Food Pantry and the Kitchen Kupboard. The American Legion Auxiliary added its $100 donation to the Mukwonago Food Pantry. David and Gail Moehrle also donated $100 to each pantry. Those donations, along with a couple of anonymous donations, and a contribution of nine nonperishable food items, closed out the first week's giving with a total of $1,890.
Other donations have already rolled in as week two started on Friday, putting the drive on pace to meet or surpass last year's total of $7,445.
Food and monetary donations will continue to be collected at the Chief office, 111 N. Rochester St., Mukwonago during regular business hours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday through Dec. 20.
The Chief will match 70 cents for each dollar donated and 40 cents for each food item donated, up to $250 for each food pantry. Checks should be written out to the food pantry of choice and not to the Mukwonago Chief.
Yule Feed Families benefits the Mukwonago Food Pantry at 325 Eagle Lake Ave. and the Kitchen Kupboard housed in Mount Olive Church at 211 Main St. Both food pantries follow income levels at or below the federally approved Department of Public Health limits. Interested residents should bring proof of residency, such as a utility or phone bill, proof of income and Social Security care to the pantry to sign up and qualify.
