New store booms into Big Bend
A bang of a store will be open for business sometime next year as American Fireworks broke ground on Thursday, Sept. 22 at its future site, W228 S7080 Enterprise Drive, Big Bend.
The American Fireworks building will be 6,000 square feet. Half of the space will be designated as retail space; the other half will be used for warehouse and wholesale products. The store will sell fireworks, related novelties, clothing, flags and Fourth of July products. During the off-season, American Fireworks may decide to sell other seasonal products, but that wouldn't start until at least their second year, said owner Vince Siegel of Brookfield.
The building is expected to be completed this year, with final pavement work to be completed next year.
Vince and his wife, Heather, have been trying to open a standalone fireworks store in the Vernon/Big Bend area since 2008. After some resistance from the Town of Vernon Plan Commission to open the store, the Siegels' land was annexed to Big Bend on May 6, 2010.
Since then, Vince Siegel said the Big Bend Village Board and Plan Commission have had a "fireworks -riendly feeling," and approved the Siegels' site plan in September 2010. Siegel added that it has taken the remainder of the time to get financing, which they finally received through Citizen's Bank of Mukwonago.
"It's been a long road for us," Siegel said. "We're very excited we're finally getting this done."
The Siegels operate about 12 temporary fireworks stands on average during Fourth of July season in locations such as Hartford, Muskego, Mukwonago, Big Bend and Genesee.
