St. James hosts wellness fair, therapeutic harpist
In the hopes of providing the community with free and accurate medical advice, St. James Parish will host a Health and Wellness Fair from 3 to 6 p.m. on Dec. 1 and 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 2 at the church, 830 Highway NN East.
In attendance will be chiropractor Matthew Behm, massage therapists Melanie Gust and Alyssa Vertz and personal trainer Karen Bast. Joan Lapczynski will provide information on bereavement ministry, and Jenny Jones will be available for individual and family counseling/mental health services information. Several nurses will also be on hand as well as representatives from the Waukesha County Public Health Department. Walgreens will provide a pharmacist both days to answer questions and administer flu shots. Visitors will also have access to information on healthy eating, Alzheimer's, dementia and more.
To wrap up the fair, therapeutic harpist Tami Briggs will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday. She will be sharing inspirational stories by playing Christmas music. The idea for the fair was founded by St. James director of music and liturgy, Deanna Page Tritz, who said, "I'm just concerned about people's health. It's just always something that has been burning inside of me."
She explained that the objectives of the fair are to promote the well-being of parishioners and the larger community, to demonstrate the church's leadership in the healing ministry of health and wellness in the everyday lives of people, to spread God's love and care for those in need and to empower parishioners to take personal responsibility for the gift of life given.
