Yule Feed off to slow start
Last year's Yule Feed Families food drive collected $7,445 in monetary donations and 423 nonperishable food items to help fill local food pantry shelves. With Thanksgiving Day marking the kickoff of this year's Mukwonago Chief's food drive, we hope the community's generosity will again stock the shelves at the Mukwonago Food Pantry and the Kitchen Kupboard Food Pantry. So far, this year's drive has gotten off to a slow start.
Food and monetary donations will be collected at the Chief office, 111 N. Rochester St., Mukwonago, during regular business hours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday through Dec. 20. The Chief will match 70 cents for each dollar donated and 40 cents for each food item donated, up to $250 for each food pantry. Checks should be written directly to the food pantry of your choice and not to the Mukwonago Chief.
Each week the Chief will provide updates on the progress of Yule Feed Families. While the food drive is off to a slow start coming out of the blocks of Thanksgiving weekend, Yule Feed provides an opportunity to stretch your donations with the Chief's matching funds.
The Mukwonago Food Pantry is at 325 Eagle Lake Ave. and the Kitchen Kupboard is housed at Mount Olive Church, 211 Main St. Both food pantries follow household income levels at or below the federally approved Department of Public Health limits. Interested residents should bring proof of residency, such as a utility bill or phone bill, proof of income and Social Security card to the pantry to sign up and qualify.
