Kindness, service comes in many ways

To the editor,

Fresh beans at our back door; our lawn being mowed; fresh homemade salsa, cookies, soup; taking time to visit; prayers; handmade wooden ornaments; lunch every Wednesday.

We are grateful to our neighbors in the Field Park subdivision and the Dancefit exercise group for all these acts of kindness. We are overwhelmed with the amount of support during this difficult time. How wonderful to be surrounded by people like you who make the world a better place.

Thanks, National Night Out participants

To the editor,

On behalf of the men and women of the Village of Mukwonago Police Department, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many participants of Mukwonago's first National Night Out, in association with the National Association of Town Watch groups. As you recall, this event was held in Field Park on Aug. 2.

I would like to thank the following participants: The Mukwonago Chamber of Commerce (April Reszka), special thank you for co-sponsoring this event; Rolling Meadows Honey Farm - Kettle Corn Sales, Jeff and Michelle; Gary Walters/Exact scaled submarine display/educational display selling his great Torpedo Juice; the Kiddie Train/Bounce House for the children, New Life Church and Pastor Mike; The United States Army (dog tags given to all), Sgt. James Price; the Hot Dog/Brat Cart Guy, Mr. R. Winfield Scott; Eagle Fire Department and command staff, (Survive Alive House - very popular and educational); Dynamic Awards (the shirts were awesome, Scott); our favorite face painter Charlie Scott; Mukwonago Fire Department and EMS (we love that tower); Culver's Restaurant for letting Scoopie visit, Greg Landen, kids loved Scoopie; Judee Purdee who completed our banner; the Village of Mukwonago Board of Trustees/president for allowing the event to be held in Field Park.

We would especially like to thank the primary person who put this together, Lisa Flesch, who is the chairwoman of the National Night Out/Meadow Park Estates Division of Mukwonago's Neighborhood Watch Program. She is already putting together more participants for next year. Also honorable mentions to Ken and Darlene Johnson, Brenda Hau, Beth Dobratz, and - sorry, Pat, I had to mention you - Pat Whaling for coordinating and conducting the bean bag toss. All of these neighbors played a role in putting this event together.

I would also like to thank all of the residents who came out to enjoy the evening (even though it was dampened a bit by rain at the start), but you are what truly made the event a success. The essence of this program is to strengthen the police-community partnership to make our village safer.

I, as well as the Village Police Department staff, were proud to be part of this event and look forward to not only working with National Night Out Committee for next year, but also working with our community throughout the year to make our community a safer place to work, play and live in.

  1. Health Care & Earned Benefits

    To The Editor:

I would like to remind everyone that military retiree health care and retirement/retainer pay are not entitlements, they are EARNED BENEFITS. Further, Medicare is not an entitlement because, since inception, it has been paid for by those citizens who were required by law to have premiums deducted from their earnings.

With these facts in mind I urge you contact your Senators and Representatives to take action to eliminate all appropriate sections of government programs that represent the Trillion dollars plus drain on the budget that goes to provide food stamps, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security SSI, government subsidized housing, education and other welfare benefits to those who have illegally entered this country. Do this before any consideration is given to reduce the benefits the citizens of this nation paid for and earned the hard way and perhaps once again Congress will gain back some of the trust it has shamefully and justifiably lost.

ROCKIN' IT - Fred Eide, left, and his daughter Ashley, of Eide Painting and Sandblasting, use spray guns to paint the individual rock shapes on the underside of the I-94 overpass at Highway P in Oconomowoc Wednesday, May 16. Each "rock" is painted individually and then speckled with black paint to make it look like granite.
