Thanks for your strength, prayers
To the editor,
Heartfelt thank-you to everyone who attended Jessica Porter's funeral. The outpouring of friends, relatives and co-workers was overwhelming. The generosity of so many - whether it was monetary, flowers, food, a handshake or a hug meant so much to the entire family. The strength and prayers you offered to our family will never be forgotten.

Thank you, Mukwonago!
To the editor,
The Mukwonago Lions would like to thank everyone for a successful Summerfeste 2009.
Special thanks go out to our village for the support from our Police, Fire and Public Works departments. The Kiwanis Club graciously allowed us use of their park for our fireworks show and for parking on Saturday. Thank you to the participants in the parade, softball tournament and car show. Thanks to the organizations that provided a great food court. Many area businesses helped support our events with generous donations, and we thank each and every one. And to everyone that came and enjoyed the festival, we thank you. This has truly been a wonderful community event!

Safety requires sidewalks
To the Mukwonago Chief editor,
This concerns all citizens and especially the parents of current and future students at Park View Middle School and Mukwonago High School.
Last week, the Village of Mukwonago trustees voted no sidewalks for the Field Park subdivision. Are you sure this is what you want?
The problem is that the vote also included the half-mile stretch of County Highway NN between the high school and Park View, where students walk to get to and from their homes. At both school locations, students are funneled from paved paths on school grounds to Highway NN.
This is not safe. Highway NN has a 40-mph speed limit and heavy traffic, being a signed connector to Interstate 43. In fact, during the recent two-year period (2007-2008), the Village of Mukwonago Police reported three accidents involving pedestrians and vehicles on Highway NN near the high school and middle school. Conditions along Highway NN are especially horrific during the winter time because of the plowed snow.
On July 17, the village released a 13-page memo compiling the recommendations of the village administrator, the police chief, the fire chief, the traffic safety specialist, the zoning administrator and supervisor of inspections, supervisor of public works as well as traffic and planning engineers from Ruekert/Mielke engineering firm and seven separate state agencies. The recommendations of the experts in this memo strongly concluded that sidewalks were advisable for many reasons, but were especially needed along major arteries, such as Highway NN, for safety.
The memo also suggested some solutions for the concerns of Field Park residents about the sidewalks. Yet I'm unaware that the subdivision residents were ever informed of the options in the memo for helping their financial and environmental concerns. (This memo is available at Village Hall for citizens to read.)
If I am alone in my opinion, then I will take my lumps.
If you think that sidewalks on Highway NN should go in between the high school and middle school, please call Village Hall at 363-6420. Then call your trustees. The village will give you their numbers.
