Don't bite
the hand
To the editor,
In the past, the East Troy Village Board has been accused of not supporting local business. The East Troy Village Board made the decision in 2011 to change the insurance agents for the health insurance for employees of East Troy. How ironic that the recommendation for an insurance agent was spearheaded by Trustee Ann Zess, who is a member of the board of directors of the East Troy Chamber of Commerce. However, her recommendation was not to an East Troy insurance agency, but to Trustee Zess's insurance agent, whose business is based in Whitewater. Local insurance agencies were not offered the opportunity to bid.
One would think that the chamber and village would be better served by members and trustees who support local business in these difficult economic times.
As a village trustee, this reflects my view points and not that of the East Troy village Board.

Village could use resources
more wisely
To the editor,
I want to say, good bye and happy New Year to everyone. Enough is enough. I wanted to sell my house before losing it to pay for my medical expenses and funeral. My neighbors and our village board have ruled that concept out for me. I will be dead or homeless soon with nowhere to go.
Does anyone care that our village board is spending your tax dollars for a lawsuit over what a tree does naturally? They consider it a nuisance because of its seeds that fall for a couple of weeks. There are over 800 of the trees in the village. I guess they are out of touch with the environment. Our village board could use our money more wisely. Suggestions I have made: Repair our buckled sidewalks to be safe and with accessibility for all, including our disabled veterans. Install a sidewalk in front of the old Lincoln Tap. People have to walk out on the street in harm's way. Maybe get hit by a car? Energy-efficient lighting and solar light pipes in library. I was told it would take about five years to recover the extra expense. I think the library will be there more than five years. The village will come out ahead in the long run and less greenhouse emissions. To have the comments from the public printed in the Mukwonago Chief. That's too expensive, I have been told. Have a credit card system so people can pay their water bill, taxes and tickets. That's too expensive, I was told. Fix the flooding issue on Highway ES and Honeywell. It is a safety issue. I was told it's a county road.
Do something for someone and don't expect anything in return. If you expect something in return and don't get it, you will be disappointed. If you don't expect something in return and receive it, you will appreciate it.
Please attend the next board meeting, call the village hall or write a letter to the editor of the Mukwonago Chief. God bless America.
Paul Teply
