Vehicle thief makes getaway after morning high-speed chase

An officer stopped a vehicle for speeding at 1:41 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, onHoneywell/Stone School Road at I-43, but when he got out of the squad, the vehicle took off southbound and extinguished its lights, driving on the wrong side of the road.

The driver turned the lights back on and continued to flee at speeds reaching 92 mph. The vehicle missed a turn onto Miramar Drive and drove through a cut cornfield to get onto Miramar Road and into the Miramar subdivision.

The vehicle pulled into a driveway in the W900 block of Miramar Road, where the driver bailed out and fled on foot through the rear yards. In his haste, the driver left the vehicle in reverse, causing it to roll back into the Mukwonago squad car, striking the push bar and causing minor damage.

The police officer chased the suspect a short distance, but gave up the chase for safety reasons, according to the report. Other agencies responded to offer assistance, but the driver was not found.

The vehicle, a 2005 Ford Freestar van, was stolen from Plymouth. Police noted that the owner had left the keys in the van, making it an easy target.

The suspect is described as a male, about 6-feet, 1-inch tall and 170 to 180 pounds. He was wearing a gray, hooded sweatshirt and black wind pants.
