Indians, AHS set for clash
State powerhouses hit the mats
The showdown is set. It's time for the varsity wrestling teams from Mukwonago and Arrowhead to get it on.
The two schools, sporting the top two programs in the Classic 8 Conference and two of the best programs in the state, will clash Friday night at Arrowhead in the match of the season in league. Wrestling will take place at South Campus. The junior varsity action starts at 6 p.m. and the varsity match will begin at 7:15. Both teams are undefeated in league action.
Arrowhead will go into the match ranked No. 6 in the state poll and the Indians are ranked eighth.
"It should be a lot of fun on Friday," said Mukwonago coach Jon Wierzbicki. "It's always the highlight of the conference season when we wrestle against Arrowhead. The match is on Friday so hopefully that will get us a big crowd. We haven't seen them yet this year."
The Indians defeated visiting Waukesha South last Thursday night in a league dual meet, 54-14. Mukwonago won 11 of the 14 matches.
Earning pins for the Indians were Joe Mattson at 145, Alex Winski at 170, Tyler Ladwig at 285, Jake Vadnais at 113 and Tommy Kolasinski at 120.
Wrestling on senior night, all five of the MHS seniors grabbed wins against South. Seniors winning were Joe Quaglieri at 182, Ladwig, Vadnais, Sam Wagner at 138 and Mike Berg at 195. Berg won his match in overtime.
"It was nice for the seniors to all win their matches," Wierzbicki said. "Mike Berg's win in overtime was probably the highlight of the night for us."
