Indians win thriller over Muskego

Amber Gray's putback in double overtime gave the Mukwonago girls basketball team an uplifting non-conference win over Muskego on Jan. 24, 60-59, giving the Indians a win over one of the area's premier programs.

Down 1 point with 14 seconds left, MHS brought the ball the length of the court, and Gray took an opening down the left lane line for a left-handed layup with mere seconds on the clock. Muskego's final 3-point attempt glanced off the rim.

"We played well from the last two quarters against Waukesha West (the previous week) and just continued against Muskego, playing well all four quarters and two overtimes," coach Todd Frohwirth said. "Both sides of the ball; it was fun. It feels like we're turning the corner after that game. It felt like it's all coming together after getting to know each other for the first 10 games."

Jenny Tuttle finished with 17 points, and Kendall Martenet posted 15. Martenet took an inbound play and was fouled with six seconds remaining in the first overtime, but both free-throw attempts rattled in and out to force a second overtime.

Martenet finished with 13 rebounds, Gray had 11, and Tuttle added seven steals.

Frohwirth said his team did not play as well Friday in a 44-20 home loss to Classic 8 front-runner Milwaukee Pius.

"We started playing in a hurry again like the first 10 games of the season," Frohwirth said. "We don't know when to go fast and when to go slow. We fixed all those things for the Waukesha West and Muskego game and thought we were headed in the right direction. They made great adjustments and took us out of the game."
