Oconomowoc Chamber hires new executive director Katie Miller

The Oconomowoc Area Chamber of Commerce has hired a new executive director to replace outgoing Executive Director Pat Ornberg. Ornberg confirmed Wednesday morning that a new director has been hired, but declined to give the person’s name. However, a source to the Focus said the new director is Katie Miller of Oconomowoc.
Another source said the new hire has a background in fundraising and has been an Oconomowoc resident for many years.
A Katie Miller of Oconomowoc recently worked with the Oconomowoc Public Education Foundation on its fundraiser, Haunted High. Her Facebook page shows she’s an Oconomowoc resident, and recent activity shows she liked the Oconomowoc Area Chamber of Commerce on Dec. 18.
After the Focus was tipped off to Miller’s name, former Chamber Board President Alan Seneczko said Miller has lived in the community for many years and has the background and skills “We believe will be good as she steps into the very big shoes being left behind by Pat.” Seneczko ?  was part of the selection committee for the new director. Senezcko said Miller has been working with Ornberg at the chamber office for the past week.
Chamber Board President Jim Fenzel also declined name the new director until the board meets on Friday, but said out of about 50 applicants “she” has a strong skill set to help the chamber continue in the direction its been going.
Ornberg announced her retirement this fall after 6?1/2? years with the Oconomowoc chamber.
Over the past several years the chamber has been moving toward more member and business owner needs, rather than promoting and sponsoring community events, such as holiday parades and gallery nights.
Ornberg also was behind the start up of many other programs unique to the Oconomowoc, including the Business Over Breakfast series, which invites the community to hear from government officials or leaders in business. She helped start a group of young professionals called Elevate Oconomowoc, a workforce development program, a green ?business? initiative and a recent Shop Local program, among others.
Fenzel said the new board is excited about its selection for the new director to continue this pace. A selection committee was formed after Ornberg’s retirement announcement; she will leave after the end of the year. Fenzel said a goal was to have a new director hired hopefully before Ornberg leaves and he was happy to report they accomplished that.
“Now we can get into next year without missing a beat. We’ve got an exciting 2013-14 lined up,” he said.
