First police golf outing supports worthy causes

City of Oconomowoc – An inaugural golf outing is going to take a swing at raising money for two important organizations.

The Oconomowoc Police Officer's Association is planning its first charity golf outing to benefit the Lake Area Free Clinic and ABCD, (After Breast Cancer Diagnosis), which helps women affected by breast cancer in Southeastern Wisconsin.

The event will be held Aug. 19 at Silver Springs Golf & Banquet Center in Menomonee Falls.

"Officer Steve Grabowski and Lt. Ron Buerger really championed this cause," said City of Oconomowoc Police Chief Dave Beguhn.

"They've gone to others and asked why not here, why not do something locally," the Chief said.

The event is open to singles, doubles, triples and foursomes. There is a $90 registration fee prior to July 29 and a $95 late fee thereafter. Registration includes 18-holes with cart including GPS as well as driving range, putting green, box lunch and buffet dinner and will be held rain or shine.

All proceeds will benefit the selected organizations.

"They are both very excited to partner up with us and we're looking forward to raising what we can for them," Buerger said.

The idea of hosting a charity golf outing has been under consideration for a while.

"This is something Steve has had a vision of for some time. We've had some time this year to bring it together and get a start on it," said Buerger.

The officers are looking for community support to help with the outing. Cash, raffle and silent auction donations are being requested. Sponsorship opportunities are available for hole, beverage cart, box lunch, dinner, driving range, putting green, longest drive, hole-in-one, and long putt.

In exchange for their sponsorship, businesses will be recognized via promotional print collateral, on-course-signage, logo on event tee and/or golfer goodie bags.

"We're looking forward to making it an annual event and making it more successful each year," Buerger said.
