Chamber plans to restructure office staff

Director says growth is steady, membership renewal good in 2010

City of Oconomowoc — A restructuring of the Chamber of Commerce office staff is under way.

"As a result of challenging economic conditions, along with increased Chamber programming and continuing events schedule for 2010, the Chamber is eliminating its full-time secretarial position for a part-time receptionist and a part-time office assistant," the statement read in the February newsletter.

According to information from the Chamber, the receptionist position is for 25 hours per week, which the assistant post calls for 15 hours each week.

"It's more hands to do the work," said Executive Director of the Oconomowoc Area Chamber of Commerce, Pat Ornberg.

"Due to our growing programs and events, there is a need for increased staff without additional dollars to pay. So thus the restructuring.

"Their duties will be different allowing more work to be done in a timely manner," she added.

Ornberg said she is optimistic about the future of the Chamber during these tough economic times.

"Our growth has been steady but there was much clean-up of numbers over the last few years before we could determine what is real growth for the Chamber.

"We are realizing great renewal numbers to date in 2010," she said.

The Oconomowoc Area Chamber of Commerce was established in 1969 and incorporated in 1976 and is financed through tax deductible membership dues. Any business or individual with an interest in working toward the improvement of both the local business environment and the community is eligible to become a member.

Membership is paid according to number of employees. All opportunities of membership are available to all employees of every member business.

The Chamber currently has approximately 350 members; a number Ornberg said is stable.
