Series of free programs on Israel planned at library
City of Oconomowoc — A three-part program on Israel will be offered beginning March 3 at the Oconomowoc Public Library.
Sponsored by Chavurah Or Tikvah, this is the second annual series that garnered interest from the community at large.
"The program is not designed to be political, but to provide a picture of the country and the people who live there," said organizer Therese Dorfman.
Dorfman said the attendees cut across age and religious boundaries.
"We had some high school kids, middle aged and older people. It was an interesting mix, about one-third Jewish and two-thirds Christian," she noted.
The programs are generally given through PowerPoint presentations.
"The first one is going to be on March 3 and will be presented by a woman named Paz Goldschmidt. She is going to speak about the people and the country and give a living picture of what and who they are," she said.
The second program, planned for April 7, is "Jerusalem: City of Splendor" which will be given by Rabbi Fred Grossman, a Milwaukee religious leader and former resident of Jerusalem.
"Israel Society Through the Media" is the topic of the program for the May 5 program which will be led by ambassadors from Israel.
Dorman said she hopes the community will turn out for the educational series.
"I would hope they would gain an appreciation for this amazing country that has relevance to all three major relations. I would hope they would come and learn and become educated about the country," she said.
All programs will be held at 7 p.m., at the library and are open to the public. The programs are free of charge, but donations are encouraged.
