Help for parents facing Facebook concerns
Oconomowoc Area School District - Educating parents on how to protect children from the dangers posed by social media is the topic of an upcoming program offered by the Oconomowoc Parent Education Network (OPEN).
The January session is in response to concerns raised by parents who attended the previous presentation on technology safety.
November's session dealt with the "dark side of the Internet" and provided real-life examples and practical advice for anyone interested in the safety and well-being of children while online or using cellphones.
Following that digital technology safety program, many parents expressed concerns regarding their child's Facebook account.
The upcoming program offers an opportunity to get your questions answered and obtain in-depth familiarity with the wildly popular social media website.
Parents will learn more about one of the most heavily utilized online social networks around and the best way to protect your child online.
Discover how to best use your Facebook page, securely post and share your pictures and work with the complex Facebook privacy policies and settings.
The presenter will be Jodi Rupnow, a certified online instructor who holds a master's degree in curriculum and instruction with a focus on educational technology.
She serves as an Elementary Technology Integration Resource teacher at Woodside Elementary in Sussex, and integrates technology into her daily lesson plans and supports teachers in their use of technology in their content.
Rupnow has served as a building technology facilitator and as an instructor for Hamilton School District's Technology and Learning Academy. She has also worked as an adjunct instructor for Marian University's Educational Technology graduate program.
The program will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 9 at Oconomowoc High School Little Theater (enter through Arts Center doors).
