New Life Enrichment Center director wants to connect with Oconomowoc
City of Oconomowoc - Connecting with the community is at the top of the list of things that Christie Ducklow hopes to accomplish as the new director of The Center for Life Enrichment at Shorehaven.
Ducklow recently assumed the leadership role for the 26,000-square-foot facility that features the public Cafe LaBelle, auditorium, wellness suite, library, computer lab and classrooms.
"I'm excited about helping to enrich the mind, bodies and spirits of the center's varied audiences," Ducklow said in a news release from Shorehaven.
"My personal philosophy is that a healthy, mind, body and spirit are vital to an enriching life at every age," she said.
"This is an opportunity to help folks come and enjoy programs. One of the big draws of the position was offering and scheduling classes and innovative programming for people to become lifelong learners," Ducklow explained. In addition, she said there will be an emphasis on the social component, for people "to learn, connect and grow," she added.
As the new director, Ducklow will also help find resources for care coordination, serve as a catalyst to community resources and provide tools to help seniors stay in their homes safely and for as long as possible.
Raising the profile of the available rental space at the center is another facet of the job that Ducklow is excited about.
"I'd like to get our room space utilized within the community as an affordable, cost-effective option in a lovely, therapeutic setting," she said.
Both Cafe LaBelle - which is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, offers pier access, daily specials and free Wi-Fi - and the Center for Life Enrichment are available for special occasions, corporate gatherings, seminars and staff training sessions. Currently area businesses and civic groups use the center, as well as support groups, clubs, groups and associations.
Ducklow is an Oconomowoc resident with 14 years' experience in the field of health and human services.
"I'm excited about building relationships with individuals, groups and businesses in the community. I hope to grow the Life Enrichment program, and to further promote it as a valued community resource," she said.
She said her goals include having "the Life Enrichment Center hustle and bustle with activity and becoming a great community partner ."
Ducklow said she welcomes suggestions.
"We'll be offering programs people will find interesting and different, and more of what folks want," Ducklow said.
