Resident steps up with first Yule Feed Families food drive donation
Will you be next to help Yule Feed Families drive?
Thank you, Maureen Gennerman, for your generous start to the Focus' annual Yule Feed Families food drive. Let's hope it catches on. Gennerman graciously donated $100 on Nov. 23, just one day after we issued the call for help to benefit the Oconomowoc Area Food Pantry.
Each year the Oconomowoc Focus issues a challenge to help your neighbors in need through our annual Yule Feed drive. We hope to provide an incentive to giving by matching 70 cents per dollar donated and 40 cents per food item, up to a $500 cap. With Gennerman's donation, we are up to $170 to benefit the food pantry, but we know it could use a lot more.
Organizers of the food pantry said their busiest months are November and December, serving as many as 400 families each month. That equates to 1,000 residents in the Oconomowoc community who don't have anything left to buy groceries each month. Imagine the feeling.
We hope you think of them as the drive continues. It ends at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20.
It's easy to give. Simply mail or drop off donations at our office, 810 Cardinal Lane, Suite 210, Hartland, WI 53029. Or stop by Waukesha State Bank, 1227 Corporate Center Drive (near Chili's), and our friends there can accept food donations in a barrel in the bank lobby, or a teller can take a monetary donation.
Last year's drive raised about $5,000 to benefit the pantry. This year we are hoping for even more. The need is bigger; pantry organizer Bill Jackson said the number of clients have increased by 6 percent in the last several years. Please donate today and help your community have a better holiday season in these tough times.
How to donate
Drop off or mail donations to Yule Feed Families at Lake Country Publications, 810 Cardinal Lane, Suite 210, Hartland, WI 53029, or drop off donations at Waukesha State Bank, 1227 Corporate Center Drive, Oconomowoc during normal business hours.
Lake Country Publications will match 40 cents per food item donated and 70 cents per food item.
These are among the most-needed items at the food pantry:
Toothpaste, shampoo, bar soap, toilet paper, laundry soap, dish soap, deodorant, diapers, canned beef stew, canned fruit, Jell-O, canned soup, canned tuna and other nonperishable items
