Bad checks circulated at Oconomowoc businesses
Oconomowoc merchants have filed complaints with Oconomowoc Police for fraudulent checks from Cleveland W. Boyden and Lucille Mills, both African American and approximately 44 years of age, from the Watertown area.
The checks issued to merchants are now all coming back with either an NSF or Account Closed status on the account that the checks were written on. The checks being issued are TCF Bank checks Number 1030-1080 with Cleveland Boyden's name and information on the check.
If anyone has had contact with Boyden or Mills, contact Detective Cristian Harnisch to discuss the matter further.
In addition, if anyone has any future contact with either of the individuals, consider the following recommendations that you do not accept any further checks from these individuals unless:
1. Request proper, photo identification (state license/photo ID), and document the information provided onto the check, this should include verifying the current address and phone number to contact (As you should with any check presented).
2. Do not accept a personal check from either person mentioned, unless you can personally verify by calling the bank that the funds that the check is being written against, are in fact available funds.
3. Do not detain either of the individuals based on this information, instead your are asked to call the Oconomowoc Police, (262)567-4401, as soon as possible, preferably while the individuals are still in your sight.
4. Lastly, obtain a vehicle description and license number (if possible) of any vehicles used by the individuals and forward this information to police.
