Prom, Oconomowoc evens score with Watertown
The Oconomowoc boys basketball team rallied around its hot shot, senior guard Ryan Prom, on Friday. Prom and the Raccoons avenged an earlier loss to its longtime rival Watertown, winning the Wisconsin Little Ten Conference game, 50-41.
Prom had nine field goals and went 8-for-8 from the free throw line, finishing with a career high 32 points. Prom was fouled attempting three-pointers on two occasions, where he subsequently sunk all six shots.
Oconomowoc, which was guilty of just seven fouls in the game, made things easier for Prom to get the looks and touches needed for success.
"Obviously we rode on the back of Ryan Prom in this one, but we really got contributions from a lot of different players," said Oconomowoc coach Kurt Melton. "Sam Loppnow and Corey Lamp did a real nice job and we had fantastic play, especially in the fourth quarter, from Nate Smart. He had four or five rebounds at crucial times in the game for us."
TJ Schlundt had 7 points for the Raccoons (9-7 overall, 6-3 in Wisconsin Little Ten Conference).
Oconomowoc did a better job on Joe Sokovich, the 6-9 inside presence for Watertown. Sokovich had 14 points in the game, leading the Goslings (10-6 overall, 6-3 in the WLT).
"He's a really good player, and I thought we did a better job," Melton said. "We executed our game plan pretty well, and he didn't get the 24 he had on us last time."
The Raccoons have three games in the next five days, hosting Menomonee Falls in a nonconference game Tuesday before hosting West Bend West on Thursday. On Saturday, the Raccoons travel to Hartford for a makeup game with the Orioles postponed from Feb. 1
"This is a very important week for us," Melton added.
