Gissal waiting for apology

Lannon Trustee Terry Gissal called the Sussex Sun Wednesday to ask who Diane Daily apologized to because it wasn't him. His call was in response to a headline that read, "Daily apologizes for threat," in the March 3 Sun.

During a heated debate over fire department procedure, Daily told Gissal, "You'll be the first one I'll kill." Daily said she didn't mean the threat and let her emotions get the best of her. She said she was being the target of threats and aggression and even received phone threats after her proposal to take the hiring and firing of the fire chief out of the hands of department members and be put in control of the Village Board.

Shortly after the outburst, the meeting concluded and Lannon Police Chief Mark Flessert pulled Daily aside to discuss her behavior. Flessert said in an interview last week that Daily showed remorse and that Gissal did not plan to press charges.
"I never talked to the chief," about that Gissal said Wednesday.

He said he hasn't decided yet if he plans to press charges, but has met with his attorney and is considering the options the legal counsel gave him, but would not disclose what the options are.

Witnesses reported to the Sun last week that Daily hit Gissal when she threatened him, but Flessert said he did not see this.
"No she didn't hit me, she grabbed my hand and nearly took my skin off. I guess I'll have to start wearing a bullet-proof vest," Gissal said half joking.

The situation had snowballed to the arm grab and threat over Daily's requests to put the hiring and firing of the fire chief in the hands of the board and to create a handbook for both the police and fire department.

Gissal said a lot of the frustration from the fire department members - many of them at the meeting - was that Daily had not first arranged to meet with the Fire Chief Gary Georgenson to discuss the possibility and her reasons behind the change.

"At the board meeting everyone kept asking quesitons and she wouldn't give any answers, we just want to know. She never met with the chief," Gissal said. "A couple people wanted to know what's broke," Gissal said after Daily has previously been quoted saying the fire department is broken. "I don't think she really knows what's broke," he said.

"What she's going to do is drive a wedge between the fire department where no one is going to want to be here if they elect a chief no one likes," he said.
Moving on, Gissal just said he wants an apology from Daily for her actions to him and the public that was at the Feb. 23 meeting. He said Daily did not apologize that night and hasn't called him since.

"She should apologize to me and the community for her behavior," he said.
