Lifetime Lannonite passes
LaVern "Vern" Ehley, age 73, a prominent Lannon resident passed away Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010.
Vern was the son of the late Charles and Martha (Schneider) Ehley being born in Germantown on Nov. 28, 1936.
A family member commented that Vern bought his home in Lannon in 1961 and was a Lannonite for 49 years. His lifetime profession was with Ehley and Associates Construction Company and he served as Lannon trustee for more than 10 years and was very active in securing a wastewater system for Lannon. He was also recently involved in the construction of the community building at the Lannon parks and baseball complex.
He was a 22-year member of the Lannon Fire Department promoting to the position of Assistant Fire Chief.
Ehley was also a key member in the committee that organized the Lannon 75th anniversary celebration in 2005. He was instrumental in getting financing for the 100-page anniversary history book.
Although he was never an official member of the Lannon Lions Club, Vern became very active in their projects and currently, his wife, Darlene, is president of the Lannon Lions.
Vern is survived by his wife, Darlene (nee Greytak), children Randy (Tammy), Timothy and Kim (Dan) Casey and step-children Brian (Kerry) Manske, Lori Manske, and Jason (Elsa) Manske, siblings Faye (late Ed) Koeferl, Marion (Ken) Wandsneider, James (Regina), Lois (Don) Ford, Barbara (Jim) Ellingsworth, Richard (Sherry), Joyce (Jack) Bowman and Judy (Peter) Seifert. He is further survived by grandchildren Kyle and Jake Ehley, Danielle Casey and many other family members and friends.
A memorial Mass and viewing was held Saturday at St. James Catholic Church in Menomonee Falls. Internment was at St. James Cemetery.
The family would appreciate donations in his memory to the Lannon Fire Department, Lannon Lions Club or St. James Catholic Church.
