District offers ways to help parents, students cope with grief
In response to recent tragedy in the school community, (see story on Page 11) the Hamilton School District's parent network, Get Connected, is offering the program "Helping Children Move Forward Through Grief" at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10 in the Hamilton High School Little Theater, W220 N6151 Town Line Road.
Presenters are Linda Linscott, a program and services director at Kyle's Korner - The Reiman Center for Grieving Children Teens and Their Families who specializes in grief counseling and Martina Gollin-Graves, a project and outreach manager with Mental Health America of Wisconsin who coordinates Survivors Helping Survivors support groups.
Topics include:
Learn the difference between grief, depression and normal teenage angst
Get tips to help your children when they go through difficult times
Know when to take action on mental health concerns
Discuss with other parents how to help others move forward through grief
RSVP is required with name, phone, email to Kristin Hasbrook hasbkr@hamilton.k12.wi.us. (Parents are welcome to bring their middle or high school students with them.)
Get Connected programs are offered throughout the school year. Get Connected programs aim to help parents navigate children through their school years with funding from United Way of Waukesha County "Helping Kids Succeed" initiative and local support.
