Lannon has no increase in 2013 tax levy
Tax rate will increase by 9 cents
Village of Lannon - A smooth budget process is likely what every public official hopes for and this year Lannon got its wish for one. Village President Jerry Newman said things went well with no increase in the tax levy.
The village will increase the tax rate by 9 cents from $4.55 in 2012 to $4.64 in 2013. The owner of $200,000 home can expect to pay about $19.12 more than last year, said Village Clerk Jim Lamb.
The Village Board approved the budget on Monday, Nov. 12 in a 3-4 vote; trustees Scott Balsiger, Daryl Fiene, and Ronald Nellis voted no. No residents spoke prior to its approval.
"I guess that means everyone's happy with the job we're doing," said Newman of the lack of audience at the hearing.
In 2013, the village has plans to construct a new baseball field and redo the 50-year-old lighting at Joecks Field and add lighting at Schneider Field.
The village took $100,000 out of its general fund to help with that. However, the Dawson family that owns Lannon Stone Products which is expanding operations will give the village $300,000 for community improvements as part of the developers agreement. A portion of the money will be used to reimburse the cost of the field improvements, but the agreement allows payments of $30,000 a year and the village wanted to do the projects this year. Newman said because of that, they took the $100,000 out of the general fund which will be later reimbursed.
The village borrowed $500,000 that was used to replace storm sewer along Main Street between Lannon and Vine streets that was done in September. Other than that, Newman said things will be pretty much the same for next year's budget. While Lamb on Nov. 15 was still waiting for equalized value figures from the state, total expenditures were expected to be $881,957 compared to 2012 expenditures that were $853,957.
