Lisbon green farmer, "Jerry" Briski, dies
A piece of the Lisbon-Sussex community, Gerald J. "Jerry" Briski, a green vegetable farmer in Lisbon, died Aug. 22, 2013. He was known to teh community for his sweet corn, vegetables and pumpkins in the fall that he harvested from his property on Plainview Road. Often, his stand was run on an honor system. He trusted his customers, according to a friend, Scott Bieski.
A series of local pictorial signs dotted Sussex-Lisbon, all leading to his place on Plainview.
He died before his time, at age 66, with cancer being a contributing factor.
"He was a peaceful, honest guy, loved to chat about everything, coyotes and foxes howling at night. He cared bout the quality of his sweet corn, green and yellow beans, zucchini, tomatoes, cukes, pumpkins and more. I will miss his hot banana peppers," Bieski said, adding that "Friends and family will run the green farmer stand through the end of 2013."
Briski was a gardener, hunter and fisherman and worked at Miller Brewing for 30 years. He is survived by his wife Linda (nee Koeppe), children Dan (Nicole), Doug and Amy and grandchildren Nic, TJ and Seda. He was further survived by his siblings Tom (Mary), David (Ginger), Gordy (Pat), Beverly (Chipp) Jaroch and Pattie "Cookie" (Steve) Rhode, brother-in-law Wayne (June) Koeppe and Rolly Koeppe and many other relatives and friends.
The funeral was held Tuesday, Aug. 27 at the Sussex Schmidt & Bartelt funeral home with Pastor Tom Kent officiating.
