Man runs from cop, locks self in bathroom

Waukesha - A Town of Lisbon man who parked in a handicapped spot at a gas station was arrested for possession of drugs after he locked himself in the store's restroom Jan. 17.

Matthew M. Callan, 33, of W267 N5435 Carlene Drive, was charged Jan. 18 in Waukesha County Circuit Court with a felony count of possession of narcotic drugs and misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting an officer and operating a motor vehicle after revocation.

According to the criminal complaint, a Waukesha County Sheriff's Department deputy saw a vehicle traveling east on Highway K near Highway 74 in the Town of Lisbon when it made "a very abrupt turn" into a gas station parking lot, nearly hitting a curb and parking in a handicap spot. Callan then got out of the vehicle and walked into the store.

The officer checked the vehicle and did not see a handicap license plate or placard inside the vehicle, the complaint said. When Callan came out of the store, the officer asked why he parked in the handicapped spot, the complaint said.

"I'm just leaving the car there for my mom to come and get it," Callan told the deputy, the complaint said. When asked for his driver's license, Callan said he did not have one, the complaint said.

The deputy told Callan to wait in his vehicle and as the deputy went to his squad to check on Callan's driving status the deputy saw Callan get out of the vehicle, run into the gas station and lock himself inside the restroom, the complaint aid.

When Callan was taken into custody he tried to run away from the deputy, the complaint said. The deputy checked Callan's vehicle and found a digital scale, marijuana, and a tin can containing 10 Adderall pills, which Callan said he purchased in Milwaukee that day, the complaint said. Callan said he did not have a prescription for the pills, the complaint said.

Callan is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 25 for a hearing.
