Plotecher, Panten are new candidates in Lisbon

Town of Lisbon - Two open seats on the Town Board will be at stake in the April 2 municipal elections.

Former town treasurer Rebecca Plotecher and Plan Commission member Steve Panten filed their candidacy petitions last week to seek the seat vacated when Supervisor Dan Fischer resigned last year.

There will be a special election held in conjunction with regularly scheduled April 2 municipal election.

Fischer, who was reelected in April of 2012, resigned later in the year to spend more time with his family.

The deadline for filing candidacy petitions was extended beyond Jan. 5 in order to give candidates for Fischer's seat the required amount of time to circulate petitions after the Town Board decided in December to hold the special election.

Plotecher and Panten joined four other candidates who will be on the town municipal ballot on April 2.

Former town supervisor Wendy Landry and citizen activist Hannah Heinritz are campaigning for Supervisor Dan Heier's seat. Heier is not seeking reelection because he is moving out of state.

Town Chairman Matt Gehrke and Supervisor Joe Osterman will also be on the ballot as they run unopposed in their bids for reelection.

Plotecher served as treasurer for 14 years before she retired in 2012.

Panten, who was appointed to the Plan Commission in 2008, has made two unsuccessful bids for Town Board.

Landry served four years as town supervisor before becoming one of five incumbents swept out of office in 2007 and 2008 elections following controversies over the development, and later abolishment, of a town police department. She later became a leader in an effort to have the town incorporated into a village.

Heinritz was one of the leaders in a 19-month effort to reform the town's code that restricted raising livestock and chickens on nonagriculturally zoned properties.

Gehrke was elected in 2007.

Osterman was appointed to the board in 2008.
