Sussex chamber planning community events this summer
Sussex — The Sussex Area Chamber of Commerce, which was founded 14 years ago to create a positive business environment in the Sussex and Lisbon communities, has, so far, five events planned this year that it hopes will help boost community spirit, job opportunities and economic development.
Chamber Day on Saturday, June 7, is intended to encourage Sussex-Lisbon consumers to shop locally.
Between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., every shopper who stops at a local business participating in Chamber Day will receive a sticker that identifies that local business.
Prizes for shopping
The shopper, after collecting three stickers identifying local businesses that were shopped, will be able to use those stickers to participate in a grand prize drawing that will be held at Weyer Park, located across from the Pauline Haass Library off of Main Street, at 1 p.m. Shoppers can earn an additional chance at the grand prize by bringing a non-perishable food item to the park, according to the chamber's website.
The food item will be donated to the Sussex Outreach Services food pantry. There will be a brat fry from about 11 p.m. to 1 p.m. in conjunction with the grand prize drawing. Proceeds from the brat fry will be donated to the food pantry.
The grand prize will be a gift package from various community business sponsors of the event that will include a Wisconsin Badger Bean Toss game, two 18-hole rounds of golf, a free Uptown Art session, an autographed LeRoy Butler football, a Piggly Wiggly gift card, a Doggy Day Care package and other gifts.
On July 15, the chamber is sponsoring another one of its leadership series events. This one focuses on transitioning from an employee to a leader and is for small business owners, and others, who were once employees and are now owners or leaders in business. It will be conducted from 7:15 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Meetupery in Suite G of N69 W25055 Indian Grass Lane in the Town of Lisbon.
Jamie Schounard of Froedtert Hospital and the Medical College of Wisconsin will conduct the session.
Chamber representatives also will participate in the annual Pauline Haass Ice Cream Social and Sussex Night Out the evening of Aug. 6 at the municipal government campus on Main Street. The chamber will have an information booth at the event.
Golf and more
The annual chamber golf outing is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 7, at Ironwood Golf Course. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m., followed by lunch and golf with a shot gun start beginning at 11:30 a.m. Networking activities begin at 3:30 p.m. with dinner and awards presentations beginning at 5 p.m.
Manufacturing Career Expo, a unique cooperative venture between the Sussex, Menomonee Falls and Germantown Chambers of Commerce, will be held at the Washington County Fairgrounds on October 8 and 9.
One of the chamber's newest and fastest growing programs, according to chamber executive director Kathryn Wagner, the career day gives high school students in the three communities an opportunity to meet with representatives of manufacturing companies throughout Wisconsin, and discuss career potentials.
