U.S. Army returns to Power Test for challenge
Power Test Inc. employees' fitness level improves
Village of Sussex - Power Test employees again pushed themselves in a military fitness test. This is the second time the Sussex employer has conducted the U.S. Army Physical Fitness Test to encourage fitness, but it also sweetened the deal with another incentive. Employees had the chance to earn up to $300 based on their test results and get a chance to win tickets to see the Packers play the Raiders earlier this month.
The Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) consists of three events - two minutes of sit-ups, two minutes of push-ups and a timed two mile run. Employees were scored using the Army's standard system that takes into account the age and gender of the participant.
A total of 32 Power Test employees, half of the company's employees, chose to take part in the fitness challenge. More than one third of the employees passed the test using the Army's challenging standards. Of those employees who participated in both fitness challenge events in June and December, 80 percent improved their scores. For all of the participants, it was a chance to measure their level of fitness in order to set goals for improvement in the future. In addition, the event was a great team builder as employees from all parts of the company cheered and encouraged their co-workers to do their best.
As Jim Casper, the most-improved participant said, "The army test was fun and challenging. The camaraderie and encouragement from my co-workers was second to none."
The Army Physical Fitness Test is just one part of the award-winning Wellness Program at Power Test Inc. Fitness classes are conducted by outside trainers six days a week in the company fitness center at no cost to employees. Employees can earn money based upon their participation in the classes and through evaluations. There is a new biking system in the fitness center complete with computer simulation of biking courses around the world. The company is also very active in participating in community and charity based running and biking events and often pays the entry fee to encourage employees to participate.
The overall Power Test Wellness Program recently resulted in Power Test Inc. being named by the Milwaukee Business Journal as the Healthiest Employer in the Milwaukee metro area in the small business category.
