Chargers bowlers finish in first

The Hamilton boys bowling team finished the regular season with a first-place title, and four individuals emerged with automatic bids to the state tournament early next month.

The team closed out the regular season with a 16-2 record, good for a division crown and automatic team bid to the high school state tourney, to be held at Dale's Lanes in Weston from March 5-7. On Thursday, the Chargers will roll off at AMF Waukesha in a battle for the district championship.

Both the boys and girls teams will compete at the same location Saturday in the conference tournament. The girls team will seek a top-three finish to earn a bid to state after taking fifth place with a 10-8 record during the regular season.

In singles, Ben Todd leads the way with an 88.6 percent fill percentage (spare or strike in frames completed) for the boys team. Along with Tony Babits (87.6 percentage) and Josh Sanders (86.1), Todd has received an automatic qualification for the state singles tournament. On the girls side, Melanie Kuntz (78.6) also earned a state berth.

Others will compete Feb. 13 at Classic Lanes in Menomonee Falls to earn additional state bids. Those bowlers include Adam Todd (85.3 percent), Alex Baier (82.5), Bryan Jerde (81.4) and Dayton Temple (81.3).

The Hamilton JV Red took third with a record of 13-5 in league play, and the JV White took fifth with a ledger of 9-9. Both will compete at the Feb. 20 JV Tournament in West Allis.
